ABSTRACT
Conveyor belts used in copper mines are exposed to mechanical damage. Some of the most troublesome damages, preventing further exploitation of the conveyor are longitudinal slits and rips. They cause conveyors downtime and require replacement of belt segments. It becomes necessary to carry financial expenses in order to bring conveyor to technical efficiency. Article presents concept of a system for detection of longitudinal belt slits and rips, that uses technical solutions which are subject of patent application KGHM Cuprum. System proposed by authors uses optical measuring configuration, which was built on conveyor construction and fibre segments vulcanised in belt, transversely to the direction of conveyor course. Monitoring and diagnostic system enables detection of longitudinal slits and rips over the entire width of conveyor belt. To minimize the length of the cut belt there should be build a few above mentioned configurations which could detect damages in upper and lower belt.
