Lithological diversity of the Jurassic and Cretaceous sandstones occurring in the North-Western part of the Świętokrzyskie Mountains and their suitability for a dimension stone production

ABSTRACT
The paper presents preliminary lithological characteristics of Jurassic and Cretaceous sandstones occurring in North-Western part of the Świętokrzyskie Mountains. Sandstones from operated deposits were assigned to the lithostratigraphic units (formations) and described in detail in order of the economic importance. Colour, texture, structure, hardness and thickness of beds of distinguished in the examined quarries varieties of sandstone were described. The information concerning origin, thickness, and lithology of the rock complexes within which the sandstone deposits occurs was presented. Moreover, the most important directions of sandstones utilising were presented and the examples of the sandstone slabs application in architecture were given.
