The article presents the issues of shaping culture of safety in Polish rock mining industry. It draws attention to the weakness of the human factor as the primal cause of accidents at work. Systematized concepts of safety culture has been presented explaining the need for its development at the industry community level. The problems in shaping the culture in rock mining are pointed. The issues of analysis of accidents and dangerous situations are discussed, in the aspects of prevention and the implementation of "good practices" as a tool for shaping a culture of safety.
