The peripheral driving force of pulley belt conveyor drives depends on the coefficient of friction between the surface of the pulley and the conveyor belt. The conveyors used in the rock mining industry are typically operating under conditions influenced by dust contamination and various atmospheric factors. The paper presents the method and results of testing the coefficient of friction between the conveyor belt and a rubber plate with either grooved or smooth surface, considering different conditions of these surfaces, resulting from contamination. The paper includes the study of the impact of the varying coefficient of friction on the effective belt tension of pulley belt conveyor drives.
